nope, didn't mistype it...it's actually 170 to 35. for those of us here in texas, particularly the houston area, this has been all over the radio and tv. two local houston high school basketball teams squared off and yates high school delivered a massive beatdown over lee high school.

i heard quite a bit on the local sports stations about it. one thing to note is that at half-time the score was 100 to 12. in the 3rd quarter there was a hard foul and a shoving match between the two teams and the refs froze both benches - meaning that only the 5 guys from each team on the court could play. so for the entire second half, neither team could bring in any subs. there is also some debate that yates was pressing the entire game, even though they were clearly ahead.

so what do you think? should yates have put the breaks on or kept playing like they always do? should lee have forfitted the game at some point? should the refs just have called it (if that's even allowed)?

i came across a video by espn that talks about it and thought i'd post it for ya:

that's pretty rough -- if it got physical, then i'd think it might be wise to call the game, but then again what lesson does that teach anyone? the losers will take something from the experience and grow from it... and the winners, although technically winning the game, sort of came away losers if they did it in a disrespectful way.

tough call -- i hate the PC police saying they shoulda quit to make the others feel better about being losers, but on the other hand i think they overdid it. confused

from what i heard, i don't think yates was disrespectful. it's my understanding that lee's bench got agressive with yates' bench - which instigated the shoving match. they're actually supposed to play eachother again in a few weeks here, so we'll see how that goes.
