Ok boys and girls now that I have purchased a sweet 55" LED backlit LCD TV I am going to need a nice blue ray player to go with it. Since I blew most of my load on the TV, I am in the market for a player in the $400 range. So far I am leaning towards the Samsung BD-P2500 (it is said to have really good upconversion for standard DVD's) but I am not married to it just yet. Any body have a nice BR player that they can recommend?
Any insight would be appreciated!

I don't actually have any advice, but I couldn't let this go without mention.

my recommendation would be the PS3. that is the blu ray player i have which, as an added bonus, also doubles as a great game system. the price is in the range that you want, and it offers the blu ray live features of a standard player. you don't have to use the "game controller" to navigate the movie menus if you're really set on a remote, they sell the remote for it separately.

i have my ps3 hooked up through HDMI and get full 1080p out of it on my blu ray movies. looks great and works great, imo.

I think this is actually a great idea. Not only do you get the Blu Ray player in the price range you want, but you get a pretty badass game system. Wink

Didn't even think about that.

Already have a ps3 and can't stand the fan noise when its playing and its slightly large for my a/v stand which is mounted to the the wall under the TV. The mount will only have my Directv HD-DVR and Blu-Ray player on it. I also need a player that has DTS-HD MA decoding built in. The PS3 can only bitstream and the reciever I have can't decode the stream.

The scary thing about this was a review i was reading about blu-ray players about a week ago, I'll do a quick search for it again if i can remember where i read it, but the PS3 was number 1 on their list. You may have to suck it up, and why not save the $400 if you already have a PS3? Get a sound system, or the beginnings of one, or a receiver for $400 and a sound system later. OK now i'm just rambling and I should bring this to a close Laughing

really? your fan is that loud? that sucks. my ps3 is a one of the first generation versions and is relativly quiet, imo. i'm sure the fan does kick on, but it's about 6 feet away from me and i can't think of a time i've heard it over or during a movie - even during the quiet parts.

Yea, the thing sounds like a jet engine running and it drives me insane if I am trying to watch a movie. It doesn't really bother me when I am playing games because I usually have headphones on when I am playing. I think I am going to go ahead and get the Samsung BD-P2500 from Circuit City. They offered to sell it to me for $250 and thats a pretty good deal for a high end player plus it has netflix streaming so I am going to try that out as well.

lol if it was loud enough that it bothered me that'd just be my excuse to get a kickass sound system that cancels out the world around me Razz goodluck with it though.

I'm doing the Netflix streaming on my PC, and I really love the service. If you can do that from the comfort of your couch as viewed on a nice HDTV, that would be killer.

After some time at the store I managed to get them to drop the price to $199. It helped that I just bought a ton of stuff for a client just before I started to haggle Smile. I got it home and installed the supplied firmware update to activate the netflix streaming. After connecting it to my router it then found a newer update that activated Netflix HD streaming! So far I am very happy with the unit. The picture is stellar and the streaming works great! Now if only netflix would fill out their library with more HD content I would be in tv heaven.
